Delivering Lasting Change
Rwanda's new local eye care service is designed to be financially self-sustaining.
Glasses are sold to beneficiaries for $1.50 per pair (the poorest 20% receive them free). This generates a surplus revenue that will be used to maintain local eye care services and to support eye surgeries and custom-made glasses at hospitals.
The service is fully integrated into the country's national health system. When Vision for a Nation's direct support ends in December 2017, Rwanda's Ministry of Health will assume full responsibility for the management of local eye care services across Rwanda.
